Come learn a new craft every month at Crafty Adults!
This month, Professor Eric Benson and Workshop Manager Hope Jude from Fresh Press Paper Studio will host a special workshop on paper-making! Come learn about how different types of paper are made and try your hand at making your own.
We will also have card-making supplies available during the workshop, including handmade Fresh Press paper.
About the presenters: Eric is a sci-fi-loving, tree-hugging nerd from Michigan who is also an Associate Professor of Graphic Design at the University of Illinois. He co-founded Fresh Press in 2012 and has been running his 501(c)3 non-profit Re-nourish since 2006. Benson has published and lectured internationally on the importance of sustainable design. His work has also garnered numerous design awards and has been seen in notable venues like The Walker Art Center, the Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, the Hammer Museum, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, and RISD.
Hope is an artist and designer who found her love for papermaking during her time in undergrad, through the space at Fresh Press. She earned her BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois in 2024. Her love for design, printmaking, and papermaking made Fresh Press the perfect space for her to explore the intersections between all three. Through her ongoing exploration, she is learning new aspects of handmade paper every day. Happy to use the practices she has learned about both papermaking and printmaking over the past couple years, Hope is eager to lead an array of paper workshops for the Champaign-Urbana community.
Registration opens April 1 at 9:00 am (closes April 7). Registration is required.
